ACCREDITED SOCIAL HEALTH ACTIVIST (ASHA a Ray of Hope)

Every village with a population of 1000 has an ASHA to act as an interface between the public health system & community. As per the existing norms, ASHAs have been selected and positioned in rural areas in coterminous with Anganwadi Centres in the districts. However, by following this norm a number of villages/ habitations located in hard to reach areas having less number of households and population remain without the presence of ASHA. As a result, these habitations are deprived of the facilitation support provided by ASHA at the community level, which need the most. In order to strengthen the reach of the services to the vulnerable and marginalized population located at inaccessible areas, it is proposed to make the provision of additional ASHA in hard to reach habitations. This would enable the communities to get right health related information, facilitation support from ASHA for the utilization of health services and adopt correct health practices. It is decided that provision of additional ASHA would be made in V3 and V4 category sub centre of the state identified as a part of Vulnerability Scoring Analysis.
ASHA selection in V3 and V4 sub centre area is as follows:
1.Area of additional Anganwadi Centre
2.Area of Mini Anganwadi Centre
Any habitation with a minimum of 100 populations and located at least 1 km away from the main village in which AWC is located or ASHA is working.
